Educational philosophy

Welcome to Ms. Colato’s 2nd grade class, it’s an honor to be your teacher this year .Before the year starts I would want you know a little about myself.  I was born in North Carolina and I moved to Florida when I was 13. I have lived in this beautiful place ever since then. I’m having a little baby boy on the way, so I’m having a new challenge this year, which is exciting.

I’ve been teaching 2nd grade for 3 years now. I believe to have a successful year with my students is working hard with each other. By having a bond with the classroom students will be more comfortable to ask for help or any questions. I like to have students working together to get more knowledge and be open with new or other people’s input or ideas. When I teach my students, I really like to show a visual, hands on experience.
For example during math when the students, learn about currency on how to add or subtract it. I like to give students actual coins and teach them each value, instead of students trying to figure it out in their work book. Same for the topic of fractions I like to use different colored and size bars to show students how fractions work and to make sure they each have their own set to help them when they’re doing their homework. During science when learning different weights, I let my students pick an object and try to compare it with their partner’s object,To see why it’s different.
